Hurricane Katrina & The Aftermath

I know many of you are a lot like me, glued to the TV over the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. I find myself waking up early in the morning, turning on CNN and just amazed at what I am seeing. I have so many mixed emotions about what is happening with all of the evacuees and people stranded in New Orleans. I feel so horrible for all of the victims who are having to endure these dispicable living conditions. It touches your heart when you see this situation in a 3rd World Country, but it really tugs on your heart strings when it is less than 300 miles away. I am like most when I am amazed at the slow response--where is the aid?!

Texas is taking on hundreds of thousands of refugees. These refugees are divided into 2 categories; ones who evacuated, and ones who stayed behind. Not to sound judgemental, but the majority of the ones who stayed behind are the "lower income" people which unfortunatly go hand-in-hand with crime. Texas has agreed to take on 75,000 of these stranded refugees--the Dallas area taking 25,000 of that number. Here is my concern; there are reports of looting, rioting, rape, shootings, etc among these people in the Superdome/Convention Center areas. And they are going to bused to our city? Maybe this behavior is due to all of the stress and desperation; but will this behavior subside once they reach Dallas? It is sad that a few bad people have to ruin it for the rest of the people. Unfortunatly these mixed emotions are among a lot of the residents of the Dallas area; I hate that I have to think that these 25,000 evacuees are going to ruin Dallas, when in actuality I am guessing it is just a small amount of people who are committing these hideous acts.

Please keep the President in your prayers; I am sure he is going to feel the brunt of the heat for the delay in aid. Also just pray for all of the people who have been affected by this disaster.
